Gabe Lopes, an East Boston native and global financial executive who now lives in Danvers with his wife and two children, is running for a spot on the Danvers School Committee.
Lopes told Patch that the challenges of the COVID-19 health crisis and the impact of recent media coverage of racially charged incidents within the town inspired him to strive to give back to the school system of the town that has been his family’s home for the past seven years.
“We viewed Danvers as a hidden gem and were fortunate to buy a home in such a welcoming community,” Lopes said. “Family, community and education have always been very important to me and the last couple of years have been tough for all of us.
“The impact of the pandemic on our students and their families, compounded by the negative press involving our schools and community, has motivated me to become a candidate for the open seat on the Danvers School Committee.”
Lopes graduated from Emerson College and earned his Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern Univesity with a focus on global leadership. He is currently the Director of Sales for the Risk Intelligence and Economics Group at S & P Global, Inc., where he managed a sales team and partners with Fortune 500 corporations to help them assess economic conditions, geopolitical risk and the impact it may have on their people, assets and markets.
